The repercussions are being felt here in Australia, with a significant impact on equity markets as a consequence of market falls in the US and other international markets. There are some sub-prime losses in Australia through the purchase of CDOs originating from US, but the biggest impact over all is the instability in financial markets. The Australian government's ill conceived plan to guarantee bank deposits has backfired on non-bank financial institutions suffering a huge liquidity loss leading to freezes on withdrawals.

Whether we like it or not, good or bad, Internet is going to occupy our life.

As long as the network infrastrcuture for bigger countries like India and China are not in place, I dont think a complete changeover will happen in Internet or its technologies. It could be in pockets and as the business market is shifted to bigger countries like India and China (with more than 8% GDP), unless these countries move, bigger changes in technology may not happen, as there may not be ROI for business houses. May be the universities can think about it ?
